Wash and peel the pears and place them in a large pot.
Add all of the remaining ingredients into the pot and place it on the stove on high heat. When it boils, turn down the heat to medium and simmer for 45 minutes. Every few minutes, turn the pears so every part of it is being cooked and covered.
The liquid should now be a thick syrup, and the pears should be tender.
Remove from stove and enjoy! Serve by itself, or on top of vanilla ice cream.
